The differences
between us

Graphics

It’s about memories, emotions, dreams and thoughts. It’s about curiosity, imagination and fantasy, it’s about love and life and its mortality. It is about longing, sadness, hope, anger and modesty. It is about us, who we are, who we want to be and how we encounter ourselves and others.

The individual graphic works appear partly naive, partly childlike, partly melancholic, a little playful or serious and matter-of-fact. For me personally, they are an appeal to be curious, to live and to grow. Very few of the works are entirely digital in nature, most of them have an analogue core, aspect, or background. They consist of digitalized old photos, notepads, papers, boxes, books, sketches, scribbles, … I have isolated all these fragments, modelled some of them, recombined them and linked them with my associations and thoughts.

A big thank you goes out to three people who have since passed away and who treasured and preserved all these fragments. My mother, Jürgen – more than a family friend, and my great-aunt. Their legacies were full of life for me, full of experiences, full of insights and feelings to which I feel a deep connection that goes beyond family ties.

Once again, I realised that we humans differ in many ways, especially in our outward appearance, our way of life, our individuality and yet we are closely connected with each other across different cultures, genders, dispositions, social circumstances and eras. Once again I realised : „The differences between us interests me, but what unites us and connects us makes me happy.“
